Kindle Fire –Save up to $30 On This Hot New Item!
If you are shopping for a tablet to read books and watch movies then save yourself $300 and grab a Kindle Fire instead of the iPad. Amazon recently released the latest addition to the Kindle range - a beautiful full color Kindle for movies, TV shows, music, books, magazines, apps, games, web browsing and more and it will become a serious contender for the hugely popular Apple I-Pad especially at a hot price of only $199 making it one of the cheapest tablets on the market.
Why is it so cheap? Well Amazon’s strategy is very clever – its happy to discount the hardware and pick up the income from the ongoing sales of downloadable books, magazines, movies, newspapers which Kindle Fire owners can buy or rent. It hopes to be a competitor to the iTunes library . There is , in fact, over 100,000 movies and TV shows, and over one million books, and over 17 million MP3 music tracks to choose from.
Advantages over iPad
Extremely tough glass coated screen so it won’t get scratched when you pop it into your bag with you keys, makeup and wallet and forget to put it in a cover.
Smaller – better for sticking in your pocket or purse, reading one handed and watching movies in true widescreen
Long Battery Life – up to 8 hours meaning that you don’t have to plug in when waiting at airports, commuting etc. ( it is less if you have wi-fi turned on)
Cloud Storage – all your favorites can be stored in the Amazon Cloud (think of this as a big filing cabinet in the sky!)
Silk – Amazon’s new web browser – fast and predictive of your personal choices.
Disadvantages compared with the iPad
No 3g connectivity and no camera - but do you really need a camera on a tablet??
No memory card slot – Amazon are relying on the content being stored in the cloud
Only 8GB of internal memory – again there is a reliance on storage of extra in the cloud
No external volume controls – could be an annoyance for video and music playback
The most disappointing aspect about the Amazon Kindle Fire is that it will only be sold in the US, at least initially. It will be released in the states on 15 November, and orders will be prioritised on a first come, first served basis so you need to hurry to secure your Kindle Fire !
